Classes
Yoga is the union of body, mind and spirit which restores and maintains a healthy body by developing strength, balance and flexibility. It can be physically demanding but is versatile enough to be adapted to suit any life stage or body shape. There is no 'one way' to practise yoga and it is not about being stronger, more flexible or better than anyone else, but about controlling your mind and body through a sequence of moves and breathing techniques.
The regular practice of asanas (sequence of postures) and pranayamas (breathing techniques), work together to help control one's senses and concentration. Camilla Campbell Yoga offers variety of yoga styles taught by talented teachers, all of which are listed below:
Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga Yoga is often referred to as Classical Yoga and is different to many yoga styles in the west in that the order of the poses is completely predefined. It is a progressive sequence of asanas (postures) which produces an intense internal heat, a heavy sweat which detoxifies muscles and organs. The results improve circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. The sequence does not change unless you become more advanced at the practice in which case the postures evolve into more challenging moves. Unless otherwise specified, most classes are “led” classes as the teacher will guide you through one posture at a time until you know the series well enough to do self practice.
Ashtanga Yoga is one of the more physically demanding forms of yoga but each individual exercises within their own personal levels of ability so anyone can do it, whatever their level of fitness or experience. However, if you are a complete beginner to Ashtanga Yoga, we recommend you join the Beginners Course to familiarise yourself with the asanas (postures).
Corporate Yoga
Modern offices are often dynamic, challenging and rewarding places to work. However nowadays, we work longer hours and spend too much time commuting. This can lead to stress, and can put pressure on leisure time.
If you would like your employees to be healthier, stronger and more focused, then why not organise a yoga session at your office? We can organise yoga workshops and classes on-site or at our studio for your teams and tailor the class to the needs of the organisation.
Detox Yoga
A Vinyasa Flow based class, moving practitioners through a dynamic sequence of postures designed to cleanse the body and mind of toxins, align and rebalance one’s energy with the end result of purification. This class is generally quite physical and in a slightly warmer room than usual in order to help the cleansing process.
Hatha Yoga
A practice done for purification and in the west is most commonly associated with the word ‘yoga’ and is practised for mental and physical health. When the two words “ha” (sun) and ‘tha” (moon) are put together, ‘Hatha’ means forceful implying the powerful work that must be done to the body. The strength of the class varies from teacher to teacher and is suitable for all levels.
Hathalini Yoga
Hathalini Yoga is an exciting fusion of Hatha and Kundalini yoga. It is presented as a dynamic and challenging class but with an emphasis on having fun. The Hatha is for stretching and releasing toxins and the Kundalini is dynamic to get dormant energy moving.
Gentle Yoga
A slower Hatha yoga class, catering to people with limited movement who want to refresh their bodies, release the tension and tightness in their muscles and ease joint pain. This class is open to all.
This class is open to all and costs only £3 for all OAP’s.
Iyengar Yoga
A carefully graded and systematic programme of postures. The system of teaching is methodical and progressive, emphasising detailed correctness and absolute safety. When necessary, it uses supports called 'props' that allow students to progress in their practice of postures safely at their own pace, to suit their body. Beginners work in a basic way on simple postures according to their capabilities. As they develop they then move on to more refined ways of working as well as to more complex postures.
Yoga for Fertility
Whether you are trying to conceive naturally or with medical treatment, Fertility Yoga can help boost reproductive health, increase fertility and enhance conception. These classes are restorative and therapeutic, specifically designed to create optimum health in the reproductive system.
Fertility Yoga uses poses to tone and strengthen, creating good circulation and energy flow to the reproductive organs, which due to stress and anxiety can be blocked, preventing pregnancy. It focuses on balancing the body’s hormones and emotions by providing stress relief and relaxation, which helps create a clear and positive mind.
Pregnancy Yoga
Consists of carefully adapted classic yoga postures and breathing exercises to promote fitness during pregnancy, both physically and emotionally. We provide you with simple exercises that you can practice at home during the different stages of your pregnancy. The effortless exercises promote pelvic awareness and relaxation as well as a safe environment in which to explore your feelings and adapt to the changes in your body
Classes are open to women who are 14 to 35 weeks pregnant regardless of whether they have done yoga before. From 35 weeks, we recommend you attend Childbirth Preparation classes instead.
Childbirth Preparation
A class dedicated to pregnant women in the final stages of their pregnancy. It is specifically tailored to ensure women feel positive and confident about labour, how to maximise the breathing techniques in both first and second stage labour as well as increase body awareness through gentle movement and positions that will allow women to enjoy the birth of their babies. We also cover essential postpartum exercises that can be practised as soon as you give birth, to help close your muscles and strengthen your core.
This class is open to anyone from their 35th week of pregnancy, whether you have done yoga before or not.
Postnatal Yoga
Includes a gentle progression of yoga poses for toning your body and renewing your strength while helping to alleviate the stress incurred by giving birth. Post-pregnancy is the most important time for a woman to regain her physical strength and stamina and Postnatal Yoga is the perfect way to get back in shape. You can attend these classes with your babies and often your baby participates in some of the postures! These classes can be attended by women from two weeks after giving birth and it is open to anyone regardless of previous yoga experience.
Baby Yoga
Babies have open hearts and minds and are ready to embrace new experiences. They are eager for communication and interaction and their bodies are flexible and unfolding. Yoga provides stimulation of touch, movement and rhythm as well as the stillness of deep relaxation. Classes are run with plenty of singing and movement and the benefits to both mother and child are numerous.
Baby Yoga classes are suitable for babies from 8 weeks until they start to crawl.
Mummy and Me
These classes follow on from Baby Yoga and are for mothers (or fathers) and their now crawling child until the age of 2.5 years. The postures are interactive, creative and help strengthen the baby’s body as well as motor neuron system, balance and digestion. Specifically it helps teach the children that relaxation and ‘quiet time’ are an important part of the day to both them and their parents.
Private Yoga
Sessions are either one-to-one or in small groups. They can be a great way to deepen your practice and strengthen your postures. This ensures you progress at your own pace at a time that fits into your lifestyle. We will help you learn to relax and reduce stress in your life while increasing your flexibility, stamina, strength and energy. Private yoga sessions may change from dynamic to static or restorative sessions depending on your needs and goals.
They are arranged at your convenience either in your home or at the studio and price is dependent on location. Please note that private yoga sessions cancelled without a clear 24 hour notice will be charged at half-fee.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga is an opening practice where we look to find a state of active relaxation rather than looking for a deep stretch in the muscles. The body is comfortably supported by props and poses are held for between 1-10 minutes.
This combination of active relaxation and opening provides the body and mind an opportunity to renew and heal and provides the perfect counter balance to stress, anxiety and fatigue. In addition Restorative Yoga can be safely practised when you are recovering from injury, illness and is suitable for all levels of practitioners from complete beginners to the more experienced.
Seasonal Yoga
Chinese medicine believes that health is reliant on aligning ourselves with nature’s seasons and elements. Within this philosophy there are five main seasons: spring, high summer, late summer, autumn and winter; and five main elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Seasonal yoga goes tailors the postures to match the energy of the season to help us live a more balanced life.
This class is open to all.
Sivananda Yoga
A traditional, slow paced yet physically demanding class that helps encourage proper breathing, flexibility, strength and vitality in the body while calming the mind. A typical open level class includes pranayama (breathing exercises), warm-ups including Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar), 12 basic asanas (postures) and deep relaxation. The asanas follow an exact order that allows for the systematic movement of every major part of the body in a balanced way that enhances prana or life force energy, keeping the mind quiet and without the need to think beyond each individual pose. This class is open to all.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Is influenced by many styles of classical yoga however the postures are often not held for long periods of time. Instead, the movement through the sequences designed by your teacher, is fluid and dynamic. The term vinyasa refers to the alignment of movement and breath, a method which turns static yoga postures into a dynamic flow. The strength of the class varies from teacher to teacher and is suitable for all levels.
Yoga Nidra
Is a state of conscious deep sleep. In meditation you remain in the waking state of consciousness, and gently focus the mind while allowing thought patterns, emotions, sensations and images to arise and go on. However, in Yoga Nidra, you leave the waking state, go past the dreaming state and go into a deep sleep yet remain awake. This is a wonderful way to end the week and is open to all.
Yoganory for Children
Moves the story! Yoganory empowers a child’s imagination, by combining yoga with storytelling and drama. Using traditional yoga postures children breathe life into stories. Using their bodies they make the story’s characters and objects come alive. Classes are non-competitive and designed to involve all the children, leading them on exciting, interactive adventure stories with songs and yoga games, all encouraging relaxation and breathing awareness. This class is for children between 2.5 to 4 years of age.
Yoga for Runners and Cyclists
If you think yoga is just for gentle relaxation, think again. More and more athletes from different disciplines are discovering the many dimensions of their performance that can be improved by adding yoga to their training. It increases and improves flexibility, balance, mental focus, lung capacity and improved breathing as well as strength and stamina to name a few benefits. This class is for sports men and women with a specific focus on running and cycling.
Yoga for Teenagers
A teenager's life and body are in a constant state of change. Yoga promotes a sense of calm and emotional balance which keeps the spirit strong and healthy, benefiting both the mind as well as the body.
Teenagers often feel uneasy with the rapid changes that their bodies are undergoing - yoga helps to build self confidence as well as a sense of body acceptance. Boys especially, tend to appreciate the way that yoga helps to build muscle, while girls enjoy the sense of grace and poise that yoga gives. For both genders, the sense of physical well being, combined with the appreciation of a strong, healthy body makes yoga an ideal choice for quality exercise.
Yoga Therapy
Focuses on re-balancing the central nervous system through a sequence of postures followed by deep relaxation - giving the body time to rest and renew. This class is free and open to all people affected by breast cancer.
Yunga Yoga
Is a fun yoga class for children between the ages of 5 and 11. Taking children on a fun adventure involving animal poses, stories, breathing and relaxation, they will learn techniques of good health, improved self-esteem and will be able to navigate life's challenges with a little more ease. Yoga is non-competitive and fosters co-operation and compassion as well as the much needed concentration and calm!
With vivid and active imaginations, children get to tell stories while working through the asanas (yoga postures), like lion, tree, pigeon, warrior etc. Partner work is fun and social and the classes end with guided relaxation which stimulates the mind while relaxing the body.
